Institute’s Board of Directors last month, and a discussion of meeting content ensued. As it turns out, approximately 1/10th of the materials presented fall into the category of “North American Proprietary”. The balance of the material presented and discussed is well suited for a global audience.

the meeting to all ICI Members and the international trade associations with which we partner. To address the requirement of protecting that “North American Proprietary” content, the first hour of the first day of the conference will be a closed meeting. That is, only Regular and Regular Affiliate members will be permitted in the Monday morning session from 8:00 to 9:00. There, we will conduct our Annual General Meeting and review the “How’s Business” report. From 9:00 Monday to the end of the program at midday
on Wednesday, the event will be open to all Members. Additionally, guests are welcome to join us for the keynote presentation, which will kick off this portion of the event. Though some of the material presented during the balance of the three day conference has a North American focus, such as Labor Law and Tax Reform, other materials will have international appeal. This year, these topics include cybersecurity, employee
retention, human factors and sexual harassment avoidance. Regardless of the change in attendance policy, the Spring Management Meeting will remain an upper management function to facilitate learning, networking and fellowship. This meeting is not, nor shall it become a commercial event. Commercial activity at ICI events shall continue to be limited to the Fall Expo. In other words, there will be no change to program
content whatsoever. The only change would be the distinction between closed and open sessions. This year’s event will be held in Sonoma, California,
and will be kicked off with our traditional Sunday evening reception on April 15. The formal program will take place during morning hours from Monday April 16 to Wednesday April 18, affording delegates the opportunity to network during a number of planned activities, including a golf outing, winery/vineyard tour and tasting, and our Tuesday evening reception. We also offer our delegates’ guests a structured activity on Tuesday morning during the conference. This year we are delighted to host a food and wine pairing during a walking tour of historic Sonoma Plaza. In allowing international participation in the Spring
Management Meeting, the Institute believes that everyone will benefit from a more enriching experience. As always we are interested in your views, and you are encouraged to contact the Institute to share your perspective on this decision. I look forward to seeing you in Sonoma.
