Familiarity with design trends, whether you want your remodeled space to be to be on the cutting edge of design or you prefer to avoid “trendy” design decisions, is the key to a successful project.
2017 saw the emergence of two toned kitchens, pairings of different shades of white and gray dominated the painted cabinetry category and forms of the same scheme were also evident in kitchens that featured stained wood cabinetry. This trend continues to be strong for 2018 with blues, greens and violets complementing wood stains or white cabinetry.
Expect to see moody ocean inspired shades or bold colors like Pantone’s color of the year, Ultra Violet, being paired with neutral wood stains or even being used as the dominant color alone. Accent colors will be bold and unexpected, Beetroot Red, Crimson Rust, Sunglow Yellow and Black Navy will lead the trend.
Wood cabinets continued to dominate kitchen design, the trend is definitely toward clean lined door styles with metal cabinets emerging as a significant design element. High gloss finishes are gaining popularity.
14 NKBA ANNUAL MEMBER DIRECTORY 2018
The move away from traditional design elements continues to be strong, the use of crown moulding, valance details and turned posts has waned while furniture pieces are still a strong element. Mid-century modern design elements integrated with contemporary style add a more organic feel to the 2018 design direction for kitchens. Paired down, clean lined stand- alone pieces continue to be popular especially in bathroom design.
Quartz is the most popular countertop material and continues to dominate the market place. 2018 will see the emergence of dark toned countertops and accent materials will be eclectic.
Metal
and reclaimed wood will continued to be used to balance the sleek
