BROUGHT TO YOU BY

The best new music coming straight outt a Norwich

Billy Pilgrim & The Heartsease Kid Emily Firth

It’s always great to bring you something a little different. And with a new album just released, another already planned and a national tour in the offing it’s a good time to get to know this brand new Spoken Word / Music duo.

It’s the story of two cousins who set out to collaborate on a project which then got out of hand. Billy Pilgrim has a mission to get us all to love Poetry. Hard task. So producer, composer THK (The Heartsease Kid) makes it easy by turning out beats and tunes to lure us in with music to which the words are set.

Last summer the pair did a national call out for poets. From a bumper post bag of 60 entries they chose 10 to work with and made an album Words With Friends 2.

The delivery of the poetry is high class throughout and THK’s music makes the album one to play again and again. The boys are gathering the artists together for a national tour in the summer before bringing them back to Norwich to make a follow up release. And that’s not all. The cousins are also planning a project with just the two of them under another name I Love You Dennis Bergkamp. This they expect to be a bit more experimental and will be launched at The Owl Sanctuary on the 22nd April.

We somewhat stumbled upon this project but know you won’t meet two more committed and passionate performers. If you have not yet got into Spoken Word as a genre, trust us, this duo are providing a brilliant place for you to start.

There’s a new acoustic act on the block with a bunch of recorded tracks that instantly grabbed our attention here at BBC Music Introducing in Norfolk.

Emily Frith is 18 years old and newly installed at Norwich University of the Arts studying graphic design. That’s good news for it means she’ll be showcasing her talents out there in the City for at least another three years.

Emily has been writing songs since she was 10 and released her first EP – One Day - last September with good reaction from a growing fan base on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.

With roots in country pop, Emily is constantly composing and estimates that she has 50 books full of songs in her room! She takes inspiration for her music from her personal life and told us that it had helped her through some difficult times in her life. Exciting things are in store for Emily in the future though as she has plans to record and release a new single every 2 months throughout 2018, eventually leading to the release of a second EP.

You might have caught Emily at gigs and open mic nights already – and there is a great video for her track You and I on facebook. We plan to film and record her ourselves in session in the coming weeks, so impressed have we been with the music she sent in to us.

2018 is going to be a good year for Emily and if you catch her now you will be joining her right at the start of her musical journey.
