Adversity Is The First Path to Truth.

A decade after a tragic fire destroyed the previous shelter, the Jacksonville Humane Society moved from portable buildings to a new $15 million adoption center. Staff, board members and the public recently celebrated the ribbon cutting for its new Adoption, Education and Community Resource Center, designed by Bacon Group, Inc. Architecture, a Pinellas County firm specializing in animal shelter architecture. The no-kill shelter plans to be a model for other shelters across the

country. “We achieved no-kill back in 2014 out of those awful trailers and a terrible environment,” said director Denise Deisler. “As proud as we are of this building, we’re a great lesson in ‘you can make it happen without the resources.’ We did.” Deisler credits support from volunteers and foster fam- ilies throughout the community for helping build the program to what it is today.
