Annual meeting highlights need to raise region’s profile
Members of Devon Chamber met at Plymouth Albion Rugby Club for our annual meeting with MPs and Civic leaders in December 2017. The Chamber considers it
essential that businesses work with elected representatives both nationally and locally. All agreed that raising the profile of businesses in Devon is essential if the county is to realise its potential and secure the investment it needs to sustain and develop the economy. All agreed that much has been

across the county including Exeter, Barnstaple, Newton Abbot, Torquay and Brixham in bringing businesses together. The decision of the Plymouth Area Business Council to work closely with the Chamber will confirm that there is coordination of business views in the city. This all helps to build
confidence in support of the Heart of the South West Local
Enterprise Partnership, local authorities and Plymouth City Council who are spearheading the proposition of new developments in and around the city including Oceansgate,
Drake Circus. In addition, there is new and new investment
by the Becton Dickenson, which brings another world class company to the city. Luke Pollard MP, who attended the meeting,
said that he was doing all that he can to promote Plymouth and agreed that South West MPs have to work together to fight for our corner of England. The South West faces fierce competition for resources from the northern cities, the Midlands Engine, London and more recently the Oxford to Cambridge corridor. “We have much to fight for in 2018,” he said.
We organise local events for businesses to meet their MPs, so please ensure that you visit
