SECTOR FOCUS: INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Go international with the Chamber

Devon Chamber of Commerce is an important source of international trade advice and support for hundreds of regional businesses and 2018 will see an expansion of our services in this area, with the launch of a high quality training programme for first time and existing exporters. Our courses are now accredited by British Chambers of Commerce

(BCC) and together form a curriculum that provides invaluable basic skills for small and large companies alike, covering the critical steps for any export drive. We will be offering 6 training courses, with participants being

marked by external examiners and certificates issued for each successfully completed module. Completion of all six modules will result in the candidate obtaining a nationally recognised Foundation Award in Exporting.

The modules include: • Introduction to Exporting • Export Documentation • New Incoterms® 2010, • Methods of Payment & Letters of Credit (2 credits) • Inward/Outward Processing • Import Procedures and Documentation.

With half day courses priced at £130 + vat for Members (£160

+ vat for non-members) and full day course attendance priced at £250+ vat for Members (£310 + vat for non-members), these competitive rates offer businesses a superb way to begin or consolidate their export journey. Full day courses include lunch and refreshments and courses will be held in our Chamber offices in Plymouth city centre. We can also provide bespoke training packages.

For full details on bespoke or these new courses and their content please contact our International Trade Officer Nick Byrne on 01752 825690 or by e mailing: Nick@devonchamber.co.uk

How to steer clear of Export Controls

Our International Trade Department is running a seminar on 7 March, which details how businesses can avoid falling foul of UK Export Controls. The seminar will show exporters how to navigate any pitfalls and to

ensure they are using their licences correctly as non-compliance can result in declarations being made to HMRC and potential compound fines or even prosecutions. Hosted at the Mount Batten Centre, Plymouth, the seminar will be run by

two ECO Compliance Inspectors and feature topics like background to controls, types of licences, compliance, Open Licence Exercises and an open Q&A session. The event will conclude with the two compliance officers providing a one-

to-one surgery, so if you are an exporter with questions to ask, this seminar is a don’t miss event! The cost of the seminar includes breakfast, with Members at £12 + VAT and non members £24 + VAT.

See www.devonchamber.co.uk for full details on course content and booking.
