New chairman helps wishes come true

West Country businessman Andrew Simmonds (pictured) from Winterbourne, near Bristol, has been appointed as chairman of a national charity that makes wishes come true for children with life threatening illnesses. Round Table Children’s Wish is a registered charity that has been operating for 27 years and has its headquarters in Bournemouth. Andrew Simmond, a family man

with two young children, is well known in the Bristol area for his work with Round Table over 14 years. During this time he raised funds for various local and national charities, most notably as organiser of Bristol’s largest charity firework display for the past 7 years. In 2009 Andrew was appointed as

a trustee of the Great Western Air Ambulance charity. This is one of a select few air ambulances to operate a “gold standard” critical care model. He was instrumental in the strategic planning and management of growth for one of the region’s most high- profile charities.

Andrew, who works in property management, said: “I’m delighted to take on this new role. The work that the charity does in providing handcrafted wishes for children and young people when they have life threatening illnesses is fantastic. “During my time as a ‘Round

Tabler’ I heard about the charity and it is fantastic to now get involved and hopefully bring my business skills to the Board of Trustees so that we can make every penny raised count for the children. “There is amazing work being

carried out quietly and with dignity every day by carers, families and health professionals but the special sparkle and excitement that the charities work can bring is wonderful. “It is different to other charity

work I have been involved in because Round Table Children’s Wish works with individuals and every child’s needs are different.”
