BUSINESS WEST – CONNECTING BUSINESSES INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Export markets are a major opportunity for firms of all sizes, and Business West provides a range of services to help you go global

Why Social Media Week is brilliant

By Charlie Bradley, Marketing Project Manager, Business West

I was very excited about social media week last year; as a budding Bristol based marketer, I had spent two years previously attending events in the city that would help me improve my digital marketing skills. Some events were pretty good; others provided me with less use than a supermarket shopping trolley. Social Media Week, however, was a whole

different ball game. The sheer volume of events on all sorts of different social media topics had me vigorously working out how I was going to fit everything in and how big a notepad I needed to take with me. The week-long event, hosted by Bristol Media and Ambitious PR, contained events from 7am until 9pm every week day which were a mixture of one-to-one sessions, seminars and workshops from a wide variety of industry experts on every platform you could think of. One such event that I remember nearly a year

later was the Small Business Social Media Summit, hosted by Enterprise Nation at the Everyman Theatre on Whiteladies Road. After trying virtual reality headsets in the foyer, I listened to Rob Law’s global social media journey for Trunki. As a client of our International Trade Services

here at Business West, it was brilliant to learn about one of the most successful businesses that the investors on Dragon’s Den had missed out on. It was inspirational to learn that the brand has grown all over the world with social media channels reaching parents and kids who love the product. Trunki is an inspiration to small business

owners; it goes to show that with the right support in all aspects of your business, it really is possible to take a brilliant idea and sell to the far corners of the earth. So if you want key information and updates

from the industry’s leading experts and some inspiration from Bristol’s most successful businesses, sign up to Social Media Week and find many events just for you.
