Novus Property Solutions has reconfigured one floor of the prestigious Cunard Building in Liverpool to create a modern training facility which reflects the building’s heritage. The historic Grade II Listed building has long been a distinctive landmark in

Liverpool. Striking the balance between restoring the building’s origi- nal features while creating a practical modern space was one of the main challenges of the project. The team unearthed some issues with the ornate coving and cornices. Novus had to carefully repair and preserve the coving before repainting.

New Conglomerate tile flooring at Gatwick Airport is plane sailing A major project to lay around 7500m2

of new conglomerate flooring and screeding at Gatwick North Terminal

has been completed by National Federation of Terrazzo, Marble and Mosaic Specialists (NFTMMS) members DMC Contracts and In Opera Group. According to Federation spokesperson Brian James, this is a perfect example of NFTMMS members successfully completing a project in a high profile, high footfall area. To ensure both the quality of the installation and that testing was undertaken at all stages, DMC Contracts introduced Inspection and Test Plans which were administered for each bay of work that was completed. The tile chosen for the flooring by the client, Gatwick Airports Ltd, was manufactured by fellow NFTMMS member, In Opera Group, and has been used at Gatwick for more than 15 years. The installation processes involved screeding, incorporating movement joints, applying adhesive and laying the tiles. Throughout the installation the floor was thoroughly checked to ensure that there were no sudden irregularities, undulations, steps, ridges, bumps, ripples, rocking or lipping. The main contractor for the project was Balfour Beatty.

With the growing need to make homes adaptable so occupiers can remain independent, and in their own homes, new guidance is aiming to help get it right. ‘Design Guidance & Considerations for a Domestic Accessible Toilet’ has been produced and

published by Closomat. The white paper gives advice to ensure that the key aspects affecting the functionality and practicality of a bathroom/wetroom and toilet, as occupier needs change, are considered. It even addresses the details as far as both new build and retrospective adaptation, in terms of legislation and ‘best practice’.
