// Villars in Switzerland
took part there. Today Villars boasts one of the largest ski schools in Switzerland with over 250 ski instructors. Two of the most expensive boarding schools in the world are in Villars; Aiglon College and Beau Soleil and because of this the resort is a year round destination with a host of activities and a lively community.
There are great facilities in Villars including a huge dedicated kids ski area, a challenging snow park for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, a beautiful spa and wellness centre, ice rink, bowling alley, indoor tennis courts and one of the highest golf courses in Europe.
taken a train direct from Geneva Airport to Aigle as they didn’t really need a car in Villars but they had so much luggage that Mr Jones thought it would save his back!)
Villars: Villars is an exclusive, family orientated, dual season Swiss mountain resort situated at 1,300metres on a sunny south-facing terrace high above the Rhone valley. Unlike other purpose-built resorts, Villars is dominated by stylish chalets scattered amongst pine trees and the resort is breathtakingly beautiful. Skiers at Villars can enjoy over 270km of pistes including year-round glacier skiing at Glacier 3000. What’s more, skiing for children under 9 is free!
The first ski lift in Switzerland was built in Villars in 1936 – that year the Orient Express made a special stop for a huge slalom race that
Where to stay: With luxury and convenience high on her agenda, Mrs Jones booked Chalet Balthazar right in the centre of town. Designed and run by David and Zany, a friendly English couple from the Cotswolds, Chalet Balthazar welcomes a discerning list of loyal clients from around the globe. Chalet Balthazar ‘Apartment 4’ is enormous; at 157m2 there was no chance of getting on top of each other! Very comfortable and stylish with under floor heating, an open fire and even an enviable, oak Neptune kitchen (not that Mrs Jones was intending to do much cooking during her holiday). Mrs and Mr Jones loved the imported pocket sprung beds with Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy towels and White Company bedding. The heated boot warmers and satellite TV with lots of English channels were a lovely touch too. Much better than staying in an impersonal hotel they thought.
