LIVE24SEVEN // Interview CAS TAWAY COL L E C T ION – B R IAN MC FADDEN

Pop star pin-up, Brian McFadden became a heartthrob of the 90’s when he shot to fame as one fifth of the boy band, Westlife. Selling over 50 million records worldwide and accumulating more than 14 UK number-one singles, the band were quickly flying without wings and taking the charts by storm. Following his departure from the band in 2004, the Irish idol ventured to sunnier climes, moving down under to present Australia’s Got Talent and pursue a solo music and presenting career. Now, 14 years since his split from Westlife, Brain joins forces with fellow boyband member, Keith Duffy of Boyzone to create supergroup, Boyzlife. Together the duo are filling venues across the country as they perform classics from their combined back catalogues. Celebrity Columnist, Ellie Mainwaring caught up with Brian between tour dates.

Where in the world will you choose to be a castaway? The stunning Italian Isle of Capri. It’s one of the most beautiful places on earth and if I was going to be separated from my loved ones, I’d want to be in paradise.

What item of jewellery or accessory would you take? My much treasured Rolex watch. It was a gift from my dear friend and Grand Slam Golfer, Gary Player as a thank you for supporting his event, the Gary Player Invitational – a series of six unique global charity golf events, benefiting underprivileged children through The Player Foundation. It was an honour to be involved.

You can take the entire works of one musician to your desert island, who will it be? Johnny Cash – an absolute legend and a true icon of music!

What animal or pet would you take? My old dog and ultimate companion, Winston. He’s such a character and would not only keep me entertained while castaway, but also perk me up when the going gets tough.

What would be your luxury item? An inflatable raft and a set of oars. Not only could I use it as a bed, it could also be my escape route to drift home.

You can take one celebrity companion, dead or alive, who will it be? Keith Duffy, because I love him. Simple as that.

If you had a superpower, what would it be? I’d like to be able to fly without wings!

Name one possession you would leave behind for a loved one? I would leave my golf clubs at home for fellow Boyzone and Boyzlife member, Keith Duffy so every time he makes a birdie, he’ll remember me. We’re totally mad for golf and get stupidly competitive whenever we play together.

What would be your last supper before departing for your desert island? Wishbone Chicken Wings. It is a Dublin must for any filthy foodie. Their chicken wings are out of this world. You can choose from all different types including Salted Toffee Apple and Spiced Orange.

What’s your most treasured wardrobe item? My golf gear… I’m sure by now you’re beginning to understand what my great loves of life are.

What would be the chosen beauty item you would take? My girlfriend. She’s absolutely beautiful!

What would be your wild card item? A bottle of vodka. So far I’ve got Keith, my golf clubs, my Rolex, my dog and my girlfriend. This island is going to be an absolutely blast.
