You’ve just finished recording the new album, your 16th. What can we expect? We are excited to be releasing a new album after a gap of 16 years. We knew before recording it that we were going to do something pretty special as the songs all sounded big when we were writing them. I think the album has a real freshness and excitement rolling right through it. It’s been produced by Youth – what did he bring to the project and why did you choose him to work with? Working with Youth was a real joy. He has a great ear for arrangement and was always ready with an opinion. In the past we were probably guilty of keeping outside influences at arms length, but this time around it was exciting to hear some songs change tack and go off in different directions. Te band is very active on social media at a very personal level. Do you think your comeback success would have been so big were it not for Facebook, where you can directly speak with fans, whereas we never had the chance to do that 20 years ago?

Times really have changed over the last few years. A while back you would have to write to a fan club and hope you’d maybe get a response six months later. Nowadays, it is easy to get an answer to something relatively quickly. It’s important to make contact with fans as its them who potentially give you the capacity to continue making art. Although there are limits to how much you should give of yourself. You’ve got Cast supporting you


on this tour – have you remained mates with many other bands from back in the day? I’m looking forward to the tour and it’s great news that Cast will be joining us. Tey are a great bunch of guys and I’m looking forward to watching them perform. It’s always nice to bump into other bands and chew the fat. What did Shed Seven sounds like at the very first rehearsals, and what did you want to sound like? It’s funny but we sounded pretty much like us from the first rehearsal onwards.
