The Pioneer View Dear Friends,


At the time of writing this column there are only eight Saturdays to Christmas, this came as sudden jolt to me, waking me to the reality of how time fl ies by these days.


So a question to you, how do you spend your time? If time was money, how would you spend it? We often take time for granted and as such fail to use it wisely.


I view time as a gift and as such I am grateful for the time that is afforded to me by other people and the times I spend with people, it’s such a privilege. Very often in my pastoral visits or in the drop-ins I manage, I often hear carers and others say if they had their time over again they wish they had said how much they valued or spent more time with a family member.


Christmas is on the horizon, a time to renew friendships and strengthen family ties. It offers an opportunity to address regrets that we may have and resolve them and not leave us with the “if only I said” and “if only I did.”


Here are some thoughts in terms of gift in the light of Christmas. What is a gift? This is how I remember gift: G is for generosity. I is for invitation. F is for friends. T is for thankful.


For me this sums up the Christmas message. It challenges us to be generous, to practice hospitality to friends and family, and fi nally to be thankful for our friends and family.


Time and family are a gift that we must all cherish. Let us use it wisely this Christmas.
