The Energy Industries Council (EIC) has announced the winner of its first EIC Rising Star MBA Award, a new initiative developed in partnership with RGU to help develop the leaders of tomorrow in the oil and gas sector.

Daniel Gear of Petrofac, who will study for his MBA Oil and Gas Management on an Executive Part-Time basis at Garthdee campus is the first recipient of the Rising Star Award and will receive full tuition fees of £16.500 to cover his MBA studies.

The runner up is Christopher Read from AIS Ltd who receives a £5000 scholarship towards fees and in joint third place are Gavin Moore from AIS Ltd and Sarfraz Mohammed from Worley Parsons. All three will study the course on an Online Distance Learning basis.

The announcement and awards were at the EIC National Awards Dinner in London.

The course is accredited by AMBA (Association of MBAs) and RGU was recently awarded a Gold rating in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework.

Stuart Broadley, CEO of the EIC, said: p14 | www.sosmagazine.biz | November 2017

I am always incredibly impressed by the talent, energy and entrepreneurial spirit of rising stars across the UK energy supply chain, businesses and individuals alike, and I am so pleased to now announce this new collaboration between EIC and RGU’s world class MBA programme.

Dave Blackburn, Senior Vice President, Petrofac Engineering and Production Services – West, said: “The EIC’s Rising Star MBA award demonstrates that by providing employees with the right personal development, technical training and career support, organisations can generate a succession of talent. We are incredibly proud of Daniel and delighted he has been recognised as a future industry leader.”

Dr Ian Broadbent, MBA Director at RGU, said: “We’re delighted to announce these first recipients of the EIC MBA Rising Stars awards. All of our shortlisted candidates have displayed an impressive career trajectory to date, matched by an innovative mindset that is essential to tackle the issues faced by the oil and gas industry. I look forward to working with all of them on their MBA journeys at RGU.”

Servelec Controls’ Remote Operations solution was nominated for the Innovation Award after it was featured in The EIC’s ‘Survive and Thrive’ Report, published earlier this year. The special report identifies the strategies and best practices used by companies of all sizes and sectors to grow and prosper during recent challenging market conditions. Rounding off an excellent evening, Servelec Controls was also recognised as The EIC’s company of 2017 having been chosen by judges from winners of all the award categories, which included Petrofac, IMI Precision, ALE, PJ Valves and Booth Welsh.

On Servelec Controls receiving both awards, Andrew Mills, Managing Director at Servelec Controls said: “As oil and gas becomes more difficult and costly to extract, new approaches are required to maximise the economic benefits for both the UK and the industry as a whole. Servelec Controls has identified a solution that, through remote operation and automation of production and monitoring from onshore, maximises the life of ageing assets, saves money, increases efficiency and improves safety. It rescues the life of aged assets aligning them to current legislation and regulation and ultimately returns them to commercial viability.

“These awards are deserved recognition for my colleagues within Servelec Controls who are amongst the most skillful and dedicated in our industry. We will continue to develop innovative solutions that help our clients ‘survive and thrive’ by increasing efficiency, save money and maintain the viability of their UK assets.”
