PLANNING TIPS AND SIDES TO HELP TAKE THE STRESS OUT OF YOUR THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY.

BY JULIANA GOODWIN PHOTOS BY DEAN CURTIS FOR LIVING WELL

A

re you prepping for Thanksgiving? You should be. It’s the biggest meal of

the year and requires plenty of planning. If

Turkey day tends to stress you out, don’t fret because we consulted with local grocery stores who offer an array of tips – including when to score good deals —and we have our own advice, too. They even shared some fantastic side dishes with us, so use this game plan for a less stressful holiday.

PLANNING After you read this article, write

out your dinner menu and complete grocery list.

Don’t forget to buy extras such

as paper towels, cooking oil, nap- kins, butter, toilet paper, candles and drinks (especially if you’re having a crowd). There are a few items people

traditionally forget and come run- ning in for at the last minute, said Ed Randall, store manager at Town & Country Discount Foods in Moun- tain Home Those are cranberry sauce, rolls

and whipped topping. Add this to the grocery list — buy

paper plates and bowls for break- fast on Thanksgiving so no addition- al dishes pile up while you are cook- ing. This is a good time to decide what the family will eat for break- fast, keep it simple like cereal, ba- gels or doughnuts. If you have company coming,

buy sturdy paper plates or Tupper- ware to send leftovers home with your guests.

QUESTIONS? Harps Food Stores in Mountain Home: 870-425-6556. Sunfest Market in Gassville: 870- 435-6180. Town & Country Discount Foods in Mountain Home: 870-425-3759.

If you don’t want to cook every-

thing from scratch, you can find items that are as good as homemade such as pies and rolls at the bakery, said Greg Harp, manager Harps Food Store #135, 924 E. Hwy. 62, in Mountain Home. Harps Food Stores was founded in 1930 by brothers Harvard and Floyd Harp in Spring- dale. If you are making homemade

dinner rolls, timing them is tricky because if they rise too fast and the bird is in the oven and you can’t cook the rolls, they will collapse.
