Hundreds gathered Friday at


N. Main Baptist Church in Liberty to say goodbye to the 'Fireman Cowboy' Brian Sumrall, who was killed September 17 in a tragic ac- cident near his home in Batson. Sumrall was a 15-year veteran fire- fighter with Houston Fire Depart- ment and sr captain of Batson Volunteer Fire Department. He was 39. During eulogies, his friends described him as a person who exemplified the best of hu- manity -- always willing to help a friend or stranger, respectful to oth- ers, a loving husband and father, and a good steward of the Ameri- can way of life, particularly the old cowboy traditions. He was active in multiple Stock Horse Associations conducting clinics and judging across the southern states. A past President of Stock Horse of Texas, preserving western heritage was his passion.


Skipa Lark Star was laid to


rest September 19. For the last 17 years, the great all-around gelding belonged to Kimberly Cranfield, in TN, but for 7 years before that, he was Shelley Anderson Grissom’s pride and joy in Texas. RIP, Skip!


Gary Cromwell, Fort Worth,


died September 28. He dearly loved the Fort Worth Stock Show and the NCHA, and he worked for the latter for many years. w
