Thank you for the music! A small selection of musical instruments - particularly percussion instruments - may give you a headache, but will provide hours of distraction for your child!

Create a dressing-up box. Old hats, bits of material - anything you can find in fact - will be perfect for this box and your child will have hours of fun using their imagination!

Ring a bell, jangle chimes or bang a xylophone: it will all be music to their ears!

With the summer over, it’s time

for kids to play indoors. Here are our top ten tips for fun activities for cold or rainy days…

Play ‘hide the teddy’. Ask your child to close their eyes and then you hide a

small teddy somewhere in the room. They’ll catch on quickly and will absolutely love this game!

Water is always a firm favourite - especially with younger kids! Just fill a basin with soapy water and let them pretend to do the washing up. Or let them ‘bath dolly’. Forget about

Child’s play

the mess and just join in with the fun but remember not to leave them unattended!

Up, up and away! Put on your wellies, wrap up

warm and go to the park for a ‘nature walk’. Even if

you’re not up on your bugs, just take a magnifying glass and help them to pick out

creepy crawlies under stones etc. Or collect conkers and leaves…

Balloons are another great favourite with kids - especially

babies. They just love

objects that move and are colourful -

especially if they make funny noises

too! Blow up a nice bunch of coloured

balloons and tie them up safely within your baby’s view! Just watch their face!

It’s parade time! Get down on the floor with your child and create your own parade. It may be a small parade but the two of you will have great fun getting creative. Pretend you’re elephants swishing through the jungle… or fish swimming in a pool.

Are you in the mood for dancing? We bet your child will be! Just turn up the CD player or your iPod and bop along to their favourite songs! Waltz or cha cha their way into releasing endorphins and you’ll both have a ball!

Fancy boxing? No, not the ‘get your gloves on’ type! Just get a plain old cardboard box and have hours of fun as your child climbs in and out of it, crawls through it, or sits up in it! Is it a spaceship? Is it a boat? It can be anything their imagination wants it to be!

Puzzles are another kids’ favourite that has been around for years. Not only do they help with problem-solving and reasoning skills, they can also teach a variety of topics, such as the alphabet, numbers or colour recognition.
