Pregnancy hair MM

Keeping your hair smooth and sleek is vital during pregnancy. Here are Andrew’s tips on keeping it in tip-top condition!

For shiny, silky locks in pregnancy

Andrew Watson Andrew Watson Hairdressing

Pregnancy is known for changing the texture of your hair, and new mums often find their post-partum hair dry and brittle in comparison to the shiny, silky locks they were sporting during pregnancy. Frizz is mostly caused by a lack of moisture in your hair, but humidity can also contribute to it, which is why it will seem worse through the summer months. Here are our top tips on simple ways

to keep your hair looking smooth and sleek, while remaining manageable and in top condition. The ultimate treatment for smooth hair

is the three-month blow dry known as the Lisse Design Keratin Therapy. This process uses a hydrolised keratin and a collagen- based protein complex that reshapes the keratin chains. Another key ingredient is babassu oil,

which is known for its extraordinary moisturising properties, leaving the hair soft, silky and shiny. The result is immediately smooth hair, which lasts up to three months. Hair is noticeably easier to manage and

style, saving you time and effort. Condition is improved, not only from the process, but thermal damage will be reduced as you are no longer needing to reach for the straighteners! The treatment is formaldehyde free, as well as sulphate and paraben free, meaning it is suitable for all

hair types; coloured or natural. It can be done in salon in an hour and a half and you will be given homecare shampoo and conditioner to maintain the collagen and keratin components of your smooth hair. Choose a sulphate-free, glycerin-packed

shampoo. Look for one with glycerin high up in the ingredient list (the closer ingredients are to the top of the list, the more concentrated they are), since it helps combat frizz by penetrating the hair shaft and hydrating it from the inside out. It also creates a protective coating over the outside of the hair shaft, so it doesn't break. Don't skip conditioner. It's all about

depositing moisture in your hair, or else the cuticle will open up to let moisture in and turn your hair from smooth to frizzy. So look for a conditioner that contains glycerin as well as other hydrating ingredients (like coconut oil and shea butter), and apply it from mid shaft down to your ends, keeping it away from your roots if you're worried about it weighing down your hair. Keep hair from getting frizzy by

brushing dry oil through it with a mixed bristle brush. Moroccanoil is fantastic for maintaining sleek smooth hair. It is the only oil that is alcohol free, which is beneficial as alcohol is extremely dehydrating. For even coarser hair, the Moroccanoil

blow dry concentrate combines the treatment to a styling serum. While your hair is still wet, distribute the oil from your ends to midway up your hair shaft. Let

your hair dry 90 per cent of the way before you blow-dry. Too much hot air focused directly on

your strands dehydrates it, making it frizzy. Once your hair is 90 per cent dry, use a round brush with mixed bristles (the plastic ones pick up the hair and pull it into the boar bristles for added tension, which makes the hair super straight) And for our final tip… sleep in a silk scarf

or on a silk pillowcase if your hair is super textured. Cotton pillowcases will suck up all the moisture in your hair, so sleeping on silk will help retain moisture, leaving your hair soft and hydrated.
