Hicks Wins Fighting Irish Invitational as William & Mary Golf Records Strong Final Day


BY TRIBE ATHLETICS SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Junior


David Hicks fired a 68 (-2) on the final day to finish with a 204 (-6) and tie for the win of the Fighting Irish Invitational. Hicks recorded three birdies on the day, all on the back nine, to force himself into a tie for the individual title. It was Hicks’ first career win.


As a team, William & Mary fired


its best round of the season, shoot- ing a 272 (-6) and moved into fourth place with a score with an 851 (+1). Host Notre Dame won the team title shooting an 822 (-18) on its home course.


Senior Sam Aronoff fired the low-


round of the day for the Tribe, card- ing a 66 (-4) with five birdies on the day. He placed tied for 12th with a 211 (+1). Junior Will Stewart fired a 71 (+1) on the final day and shot a 214 (+4) for the tournament.


Senior Bryce Johnson also en-


joyed a strong final round, going one-under with a 69. Johnson re- corded a 215 (+5) for the tour- nament. Freshman Trevor Hecht rounded out the Tribe with a 220 (+10).


Notes W&M’s 272 (-6) today was the


tied for the fifth-best round in school history… The combined 851 (+1) team total is good for the tied for the eighth best three-round score in school history … Junior David Hicks’ 204 (-6) is a career-low … It is also tied for the fifth-best tour- nament score in school history … It was Hicks first career win and his second top-five finish this year …


Senior Sam Aronoff also carded the lowest round of his career, shooting a 66 (-4) … The score is tied 15th lowest all-time in school history … It was Aronoff’s fourth round be- low or at par … Senior Bryce John- son fired a career-low 69 (-1) in the final round … It was his second round below or at par this season Johnson’s tournament score of 215 (+5) is a new career-low …. Fresh- man Trevor Hecht’s 220 (+10) is a career-low.
