In the next two years, the City will update its development plan and negotiate agreements with Redcliff and Cypress County. What, in your opinion, needs to be included?

While smiling to the group, “Hello. I’m Maureen Roberts… many people call me ‘Mo’. You might know of me from my time working in the landscape trade. I probably sold you the healthiest tree in your yard, or educated you on proper pruning practices. Maybe I convinced you to try going green with integrated pest management. You may have called upon me to assist in helping with concerns, needed advice or my honest opinion on issues you may have had. I’m running for a seat on council on October 16th, so tonight I’m going to be that salesman again! I will be the honest and engaged voice! I’m going to convince you that a vote for Maureen Roberts is the smart and informed decision!”

I am a strong supporter of the use of renewable energy. During my research in the election process I have felt a reluctance to pursue alternative forms of energy in our historically fossil fuel based economy. We can have it all! The citizens of Medicine Hat are fortunate that we have “all hell for a basement” but we also lay claim to being the sunniest. As well, our placement on the prairie ensures the opportunity for further development in wind power. Perhaps taking a second look at idle or abandoned wells could create a windfall in geothermal energy. As in the oilpatch, these enterprises require the services and support of many skilled employees to maintain and upgrade the technology, production and infrastructure. Investing in renewable energy sources now makes sense for our future and for the environment.
