With you as Mayor, how would you address the issue of transparency at City Hall?

The last 10 years have been a flux in the gas and oil sector. How has the city’s business unit performed and what is your vision for the future? How would you like to see City Hall balance spending restraint and public service delivery for residents?

There would be no more closed door meetings except in the case of HR, personnel issues, and bids on contracts. These have to be in camera meetings due to FOIP. All meetings that are not held in camera will be open to the public.

I support the program, and as far as I can see it is good, however the ball still rests in council’s court and they are the last stamp on the ticket which will allow any program to be put into service.

The energy division has done a good job of ensuring that we have kept our spending within reason. The sale of those gas wells that were under producing has saved us millions of dollars, in servicing costs and restoration costs. My view for the future would be to continue exploration of Helium, and if there is a quantity that will give us a supply for 25-50 years then invest in a refinery. This would be a good use of our money, building our refinery, employing our citizens. Or if the ROI is there look for a partner.

Stay within your budget, it’s really quite simplistic. If you have an income of $2,000 and you are spending $2,200 then you must trim your expenditures.

Medicine Hat is an oasis in the prairie, we have beautiful parks, 120km of trail system for walking and biking, first class sporting facilities, Canalta Centre, Leisure Centre, low crime rate, we are the intersection of two major highways (Trans-Canada & Highway 3) and we own our own utilities to keep costs low as well as the municipal airport. We are the sunshine capital of Alberta.
