Michael Klassen
1 Hello, my name is Michael Klassen. I grew up in Medicine Hat with an adventurous spirit
I believe a fiscal Conservative world view works best for personal and corporate prosperity; it is the superior way to be competitive in community development.
I’ve worked in Broadcasting and Project Management; and because my parents always told us to have a trade as a backup, I have worked in residential construction for many years. I have been self-employed for many years and have experienced the trials and troubles that have affected many families over the past few years. I am running for Council because I believe for Medicine Hat to be a great place to call home, our local governance needs to return to operating cost effectively and encouraging industrial and business growth.

I believe that with electricity, cost and production must have certainty in both cost and reliability.
1. Wind and Solar cannot consistently deliver these. Hydro-electricity and synthetic natural gas is superior in all these areas; it produces a lifetime supply of non- polluting electrical generation.
2. We have the cleanest burning coal plus, the electricity it produces is inexpensive and reliable. Wind and solar are unreliable and expensive, they need more research and development.
3. Recruit and establish electrical R&D facilities in Brier Park.
4. Evaluate a hydro/irrigation dam development project. This develops agri-business, industry, and residential sectors.
5. Develop a program converting residential and industrial garbage into synthetic natural gas which can be cleanly burned to create electricity.
Growing our city requires we are competitive in land costs, tax structure, and in input and utility costs.

There always needs to be a balance in spending and taxation. Using resources as a portion of income makes budgets difficult to develop. The business and industrial sector needs to be grown to broaden the tax base in Medicine Hat so residents, many of whom are retired and on fixed incomes, aren't saddled with proposed increases.
The City has lost millions of dollars on investments such as the Manyberries oil exploration and this is distressing. The City is not a venture capital company; it should concentrate on setting the conditions for private sector growth to enable expansion of our tax base so that we can provide the first-class services this City deserves.
and a devout Christian faith. Currently, I have am running as a candidate for Medicine Hat City Council Election on October 16th.
4. Growing our city requires we are competitive in land costs, in input and utility costs, and tax structure.
1. Increase the off-site levies. 2. Implement a graduated tax structure for new and expanding businesses.
3. Attract new kinds of industry, increase Internet connectivity, expand our airport and complete the twinning of highway 3.
4. Evaluate a hydro-electric and irrigation dam project.
5. Redevelop the old arena into a residential/medical/retail complex with new YMCA.
6. Synthetic natural gas production from garbage collection for electrical production.
Myles Mulholland and I believe we may need 4-6 years or more to rebuild. The business and industry potential of this city has stagnated; the peoples’ net worth has decreased. We intend to reverse this with a fiscally conservative plan that builds a business-friendly environment which attracts manufacturing, distribution, and new technologies, enriching the lives of the citizens of Medicine Hat. Grow the City, not taxes.

1. Local water protection, use and development a. Investigate an area for a hydro-electric and irrigation dam project.
2. We need to review transport options linking our communities, working together to develop an area logistics park or inland terminal.
3. Twinning of highway 3 and developing a link from Highway 1 to Highway 3 through Redcliff, Seven Persons and Dunmore.
4. Expand emergency services ties for all levels of public safety.
5. Joint garbage collection to create non-polluting synthetic natural gas electrical generation which is clean, efficient, and reliable
