County Councillor Update Dear Residents,


First my congratulations to the Carnival Committee for yet another successful Carnival which all participants enjoyed and which recently gave generous donations to local charities, notably the Corfe Mullen Youth Trust and the Green Island Holiday Trust this year.


Corfe Mullen Speedwatch continues to mount patrols and is delighted to have acquired a new and better recording device, thank you very much to both Corfe Mullen Home Watch and to Cllr Sarah Burns, who have shared the price of £900 between them.


The Beacon Hill Tip has been a part of our village for a long time now, and those of you who live close to it may have noticed that it is very quiet. Landfi lling operations ceased in March and now all the work that’s being carried out is fi nishing off and restoration. Soon, from most angles, we will see it as a green hill at the back of the Heath.


However, because of the changing pattern of recycling and a move away from landfi ll, it is not completely full. The fi nal cell has not been fi lled, and it cannot remain empty into the future. Sita, who are now named Suez, need to decide how they are going to deal with this very soon. The Beacon Hill Liaison Committee, the body set up right at the beginning which consists of local elected representatives, local residents, Suez staff, Planning Offi cers, Environmental Offi cers and various other interested bodies, like Dorset Wildlife Trust, are vigorously resisting an extension of the life of the site, and are working hard with Suez to fi nd an acceptable solution. We will keep you informed.
