“Every single person is important”

Robert Collard has built the R Collard business up from the ground

Strength

Despite this, R Collard goes from strength to strength and was this year crowned Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year at the 2017 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management in London.

In March 2017, the company took a step forward with the opening of its fi rst scrap yard, at Wokingham in Berkshire and last month it commissioned a new £1 million BlueMAC heavy waste processing line at its Eversley depot.

R Collard also recently won a £3 million demolition contract with GlaxoSmithKline to work on a brownfi eld regeneration site at Greenford in London.

“Ever since I started the company the turnover has increased every year”, says Mr Collard.

Future

Looking to the future, Mr Collard hopes to maintain this growth against a challenging economic backdrop.

“My hopes and plans are for the business to continue to grow and to maintain its profi t margins,” he says. “I would also like my two boys to come in and work in the business. T ey do a bit at present but their racing careers have very much dominated.”

Mr Collard says he is keen to grow the company through acquisition and has earmarked specialist soil remediation and asbestos removal as a possible growth area.

Summing up how far he has come, he says: “I’ve massively surpassed all of my expectations as a racing driver and of running a demolition and waste company. I’m a fi rm believer that if you want something hard enough you will get it, nothing is unachievable for anyone.”
