aving been involved in the waste and resource industry for over 50 years, I

was delighted when Jenny Watts, the CEO and founder of UROC, asked me to be Chairman.

As most of you will know, UROC was formed to represent the SME waste and resource sector in 2012, when HMRC created the landfi ll tax fi asco in relation to trommel fi nes, which put many independent operators at serious risk of losing their business’. UROC, through the hard work lead by Jenny, worked very closely with all parties involved to fi nd a solution that was practical and workable for all concerned.

From that beginning UROC has gone from strength to strength with membership growing rapidly as operators support and acknowledge the excellent work UROC does on their behalf.

UROC in representing its members works with; the Treasury, HMRC, Revenue Scotland, DEFRA, the Welsh Government, the Environment Agency and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (to name but a few), to make sure the views of its member are heard loud and clear!

We are absolutely thrilled to be launching UROC’s new membership benefi t, the Resource Operators Journal and our ‘go to guy’ mascot ROJ. T rough our new publication there is now an even greater opportunity to have views communicated eff ectively. It is important that the SME sector stands united and it must make sure its voice is heard through UROC and ROJ.

Resource Operators Journal is published by UROC Media.

Reproduction of this publication in part or in full is prohibited.

This Journal has been printed on paper from a sustainable source

I must conclude by thanking all of the UROC team and especially Jenny, who has carried a lot of responsibility and done a large proportion of the work to date, UROC would not be regarded so highly and at the forefront of the debate without all her eff orts. Please continue to support YOUR trade body and remember UROC is your rock.
