The fibre industry uses a huge amount of energy, and this is the optimum approach to effectively use and save valuable resources.

Seamless integration of simple drives Siemens has paved the way to digitalisation with its Integrated Drive Systems (IDS): By being able to be seamlessly integrated in every drive system, every automation environment and even over the complete lifecycle, Siemens IDS creates real drive systems, based on simple drive components. The next generation of Simotics SD motors from Siemens offers a comprehensive digitalisation package to address future challenges in drive technology. The new Smart Motor concept allows motor condition data to be simply analysed in MindSphere – allowing motor data to be accessed from anywhere around the globe. Based on a model of the SST- 600 steam turbine, Siemens has demonstrated how steam and also gas turbines can be used as generators or mechanical drives in the fibre industry. Using virtual reality glasses, it is possible to view other turbine models – and experience the world of turbines live. Based on all these applications and more than 100 years of experience as a partner to the fibre industry, Siemens supports this sector to handle the challenges posed by digitalisation – both today and in the future. and perform flawlessly in rough mill environments. “We are delighted to be honoured with this prestigious design award,” said Jim Fisher, ABB’s global product group manager for pulp and paper, “This underscores ABB’s ongoing commitment to continuously improving our customers’ experience and delivering products that help to be more successful.” The Network Platform 800 – which received the ‘Red Dot for high design quality’ – is a high- performance scanner designed for small-to-mid size paper machines of up to 6.2 meters (244 inches)

sheet width. With 5,500 entries from 54

countries this year, the Red Dot Awards is organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and is one of the world’s largest design competitions. Professor Dr Peter Zec, chief executive of the Red Dot Awards, stated “The Red Dot winners are pursuing the right design strategy. They have recognised that good design and economic success go hand in hand. The award by the critical Red Dot jury documents their high design quality and is indicative of their successful design policy.”
