Palais Galliera Paris
Commissioned by the Duchesse de Galliera in 1878 to hold her art collection, the building has seen several transformations over the years, having also been a museum of industrial design and an auction house. It offi cially became a fashion museum in 1977 and today contains signature clothing from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. There’s even a contemporary department showcasing the work of some of today’s most infl uential designers. It’s a paradise for designers and fashionistas, but keep in mind that it is only open to the public during specifi c exhibitions, its
latest being Spanish Costume: Darkness and Light, until September 24.

Musée de la Mode et du Textile Paris
Now under the auspices of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, this now-defunct museum still has more than 150,000 outfi ts, accessories and textiles. Regular temporary exhibitions are held to share this eye-popping collection with the public.

Centre National du Costume de Scène Moulins
The colourful, richly-textured past of French theatre costume is shown in all its glory at the Centre National du Costume de Scène. Several centuries’ worth of clothing created for the stage is now on permanent display, from the ballet outfi ts of the National Opera of Paris to the fl amboyant ensembles of the ❯❯
