Welcome to the great British summer! Whether this is your first summer in the UK or just your latest, there’s no mistaking the change in the feel of the pace of life here. While the main guarantee of a British summer is its unpredictability, with the traditional pastime of guessing whether we will bask in the sun or whether it will it be a washout, there are plenty of other British traditions you can count on throughout July and August. Britain has a long history of eccentric and original festivals and fairs and this month we cover a range of them, from world-famous music and comedy festivals to the Pearly Kings and Queens’ Harvest Festival Parade. One of the best-loved festivals, the Proms, warrants a feature of its own. If you’ve never attended a Prom, perhaps this will be the year. We also venture further afield to bring you a roundup of the best arts and culture fairs around some of the most interesting locations in Europe. Closer to home you can channel your inner explorer by venturing out into parts of London and slightly further afield that you may not have thought to visit with our guide to uncovering three villages slightly off the beaten path.
As with every issue of FOCUS magazine, we aim to bring you informative, useful and interesting articles to help you get the best out of life in the UK. Tis issue also features a range of topics from where to throw a party to exploring work in the charity sector to building resilience in children.
For us at FOCUS, summer has kicked off on a high note with our very own Nancy Dickinson winning the award for Exceptional Contribution to Relocation at the RelocateMagazine Awards. You can read all about the event and the award on page 35 or perhaps pop into our office to have a look at it. We’d love to see you!
