NEW LANDMARK ENERGY SECTOR HQ AT BEACON PARK WILL ENSURE 190 JOBS CONTINUE TO BE BASED AT GREAT YARMOUTH
A major energy sector employer is set to expand further within Great yarmouth – thanks to an agreement with Great Yarmouth Borough Council that will see the council delivering a landmark base built in the Enterprise Zone at Beacon Park.
Proserv approached Great Yarmouth Borough Council last year to discuss its ambitions to consolidate and grow its Great Yarmouth operation under one roof. It currently employs about 190 staff at three sites across the borough. Most of these employees already live within 10 minutes of Beacon Park, a growing hub for the energy sector, which is owned by the council.
Through an agreement between Proserv, the borough council and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the council will develop a new Great Yarmouth headquarters for Proserv to be called Artemis House on a prominent site on the park, which is part of the Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft (New Anglia) Enterprise Zone.
Comprising 65,000sq ft of modern office and production floorspace, the prestigious building, flanking the new link road, will be one of the largest commercial buildings in terms of floorspace ever constructed in the borough. There is also an option to add a further 20,000sq ft of workshop capacity at a later date.
The borough council has invested £4.5m in the development, with £1.5m coming from New Anglia LEP’s Growing Places Fund and Proserv contributing up to £2m towards the fit-out for their requirements and will be taking a 20-year lease on completion.
The completed development will form another part of the council’s important property portfolio generating significant rental income which is used to help support vital public services.
The council has awarded the construction contract to Morgan Sindall and is due to start on the 5.75-acre site in early June, with Proserv moving early 2018 into the new purpose-built base, which will be their new technology centre for subsea controls and communications.
Sponsored by the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES), Oceans is the premier ocean engineering forum for the international marine community to meet and discuss topical issues.
The four-day conference featured over 43 exhibitors from across Europe, Canada, the US, China, Japan and Singapore. The Gold Patron for Oceans 17 was industry body, Subsea uk.
Over 480 marine technology papers were presented on a range of topics including subsea engineering and operations, optical sensing, imaging and instrumentation, fisheries and aquaculture. The event also explored the latest marine and renewable technologies as well as unmanned underwater vehicles for defence applications.
“The overall conference was a great example of local Scottish marine technology, and, at the same time, it brought marine science and technology experts from around the globe to Aberdeen,” said Professor John Watson, Chair for OCEANS Aberdeen.
The plenary session featured distinguished speakers form the world of ocean science, technology and management, including Professor Anne Glover from the University of Aberdeen, Dr Stef Kapusniak of SMD, Dr. Gareth Davies of Aquatera, and Dr Eric Delory from Plocan.
The event also received support from the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University, Visit Scotland, AECC, Visit Aberdeenshire, Kongsberg, International Oceans Systems, ROV Planet, DECOM North Sea and Subsea and Offshore Service Magazine.
FUGRO CONTINUES INSPECTION, REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES FOR PETROBRAS IN BRAZIL
Fugro has been awarded a further 2-year contract by Petrobras to provide comprehensive inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) and pipeline inspection services in Brazil. This new award follows Fugro’s successful completion of an initial 12-month contract for the oil major, after taking delivery of the new-build vessel Fugro Aquarius.
Built specifically for the Brazilian market by Wilson Sons shipyard in São Paulo, with local content of more than 60%, Fugro Aquarius is an 83-metre, DP-2 ROV support vessel. With a deck area of 520 square metres, the vessel is permanently equipped with two Fugro-built 150HP 3,000-metre work class ROVs.
Commenting on the latest award, Andrew Seymour, Fugro’s Manager for marine business in Brazil said, “As industry leader in ROV IRM, Fugro provides worldwide subsea inspection services in water depths up to 4,000 metres. This new contract strengthens our position in the Brazilian market, despite the challenging market conditions, and reinforces our ability to provide these services to clients such as Petrobras.”
Operations commenced in May 2017.
