2017 FESTIVAL GUIDE
REEPHAM FESTIVAL 12-13 AUGUST
REEPHAM, NORFOLK
This community focused, family friendly musical extravaganza has sold out for the past four years. Every year, 2,000 people arrive at Rookery Meadow knowing they are going to have a weekend to remember – full of fun, local fare and some amazing acts. Over the past nine years, Reepham has attracted some of the UK’s best-loved musical talent including bands like Dr. Feelgood, Big Country The Selecter and Toploader, as well as showcasing many phenomenal up-and-coming and local musicians. This is their tenth anniversary so it’ll be extra double fun with a side helping of fun. On Friday the action starts at Whitwell Station, leading onto Rookery Meadow and the Church Stage on Saturday and the marquee on Sunday. With music from noon til dusk each day, fantastic food and drink on offer and entertainment for the kids it’s bound to be a winner. This year’s musicians include big hitters like The Beat and Limehouse Lizzy through to local acts like Kolin Durier, The Georgia Shackleton Trio and The Extons, all feel good, family friendly tunes. Camping is available but it’s only half an hour’s drive away, and gives you the excuse to check out the lovely market town of Reepham whilst you’re there. An adult weekend ticket costs just £30 in advance.

CAMBRIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL 27-30 JULY
CHERRY HINTON HALL, CAMBRIDGE
Ah Cambridge Folk Festival. The most chilled, friendly, lovely four day festival with the most stalwart attendees. Held every year since 1965, around 14,000 people go along to soak up those great folky vibes. This year Jon Boden has curated it, selecting fantastic and varied acts like Chris T-T, Martin Simpson and Lau as part of his line up. There’s are relative newbies like Jake Bugg, Lisa Hannigan, Ward Thomas and Wildwood Kin playing alongside some incredible legends like Loudon Wainwright III and Shirley Collins. It’s a festival that feels like its in the countryside when its actually pretty close to the centre of Cambridge, with lush forests and streams on site. The usual delicious grub is for sale, and stalls selling all sorts of folky tings. Don’t forget to bring a camping chair for the ultimate in gig watching comfort. This is a festival that’s definitely looking forward, not backwards, with more young people and upcoming acts on the bill than ever before – be prepared to discover more shades of folk than you ever thought possible.
