2017 FESTIVAL GUIDE
WHITENOISE 03-06 AUGUST
VW EUSTON PARK, THETFORD
Established 15 years ago, VW Whitenoise was created and is still run by a couple who are just crazy about those Volkwagens vehicles. With four music stages, the focus is on the very best local acts, including Franko Fraize, Solko, Chrome & Ill Inspired, Hello Bear and Chris Pidgeon amongst others, with additional tunes from national artists like DJ Cheeba, Beach Boys UK and The Allergies. It’s a really great festival for families in particular – the beautiful lawns, forests and lake at Euston Park offer lots of mucking about room. Activity wise the small ones should definitely check out Planet Kids for free clay making, trombone playing and space hopper discos. There’ll be live graffiti from Step 39 and friends, a funfair and for a bit of drama, a fire breathing giant robot and aerialism workshop and performances. Petrolheads will have an absolute ball – bring your VW along to compete in the Show and Shine competition (with cash prizes to be won), admire the retro and custom bikes, and give the ‘tricky bikes’ a go – guaranteed a laugh every time. Euston Park’s only an hour from Norwich but if you need your comfort whilst you’re away from home there are some lovely bell tents for hire. Beep beep!

HOUGHTON FESTIVAL 11-13 AUGUST
HOUGHTON HALL, KING’S LYNN
Curated by Craig Richards, Resident Advisor at Fabric and techno DJ, and produced by Gottwood, an established dance festival in Wales, Houghton debuts this year in Norfolk. Set around a beautiful lake in woodland, there are some amazing unique venues onsite for you to bug out in, including an abandoned warehouse, subterranean bowl and sculpture park. This is a festival of dance music and art, with nature-led installations joining the works of Richard Long, James Turrell, Zhan Wang and Stephen Cox amongst others who are already sited in the grounds. If dancing is your thing you’ll need new flip flops by the end of the weekend, and maybe new legs if the line up is anything to go by. With long DJ sets from the likes of Floating Points, Nicolas Jaar, Horse Meat Disco, Radioactive Man, Mr Scruff and Nightmares on Wax this is a real treat. Tony Allen will be playing live, as will Hercules and Love Affair. After all that shugging about, gorge yourself on fine food from around the country as well as locally sourced delights. Let’s hope this is the first of many years for Houghton Festival (pronounced ‘Hooton’ BTW). Hands in the air.
