Drove while twice limit
DRUNK driver who failed to stop after driving dangerously through Maidstone has been banned from the road for three years. The court heard 43-year-old
Daniel Frederick Beardwas given a breath test after failing to stop his Nissan Qashqai in Old Tovil Road. The reading showed he had
73mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 35mg. Beard admitted drink-driving , dangerous driving and failing to stop.
Mid Kent magistrates’ banned
Beard, from Hever Avenue, Sevenoaks, from driving for three years, ordered he do 180 hours of unpaid community work and pay £85 costs and an £85 victim sur- charge.
White lines
KENT Highways has advised that the proposed white verge lines on the Lenham Road at Wents/Kingswood will not be painted until a second road traffic survey has been carried out. Ulcombe Parish Council has been advised that the survey is planned for the end of June, early July. The lines will not be drawn in
until after the road has been re- paired with amicroasphalt surface.

Road markings fail to deter problem drivers
A SET of road markings designed to prevent aggressive driving and criminal damage in Leeds village has failed to make any difference, say residents. Extended parking boxes – de- signed to encourage parking fur- ther into the road – in Upper Street as well as lines to make the road look narrower have not worked, theysay. Robert Jackson said the issue of irresponsible driving and aggres- sive motorists has got worse. The traffic-calming measures
were introduced in May after a site consultation between residents and Kent County Council inAugust last year (pictured). Mr Jackson said: “The idea of the parking boxes is a good one, except we get articulated lorries illegally coming through the village which don’t stop for anyone or anything. “Everyone would suffer even
more damage to their cars than they have already. We’re sick of cars taking off our wing mirrors, denting, scratching or scraping our cars and driving off.

“The new measures have not worked. If anything, drivers are even more angry and aggressive when they come through Leeds than they have ever been before.” One recent instance involved
drivers obstructing an ambulance trying to answer a call to an injured baby at a home in Upper Street. County councillor Gary Cooke
said: “The lines on either side of the road are to make people slow down while the extended boxes are meant to avoid people crashing head on.With articulated lorries ig- noring the lorry ban on the B2163
through Leeds several times a day every day, one can see the reluc- tance to park further into the road to create a traffic-calming measure. “It is very disappointing that the measures have not worked so far but it merely strengthens the argu- ment for a relief road to connect the Sutton Road and the A20 at junc- tion 8 of the M20.” Leeds borough councillor Gill
Fort said: “This is only going to get worse while the council plans more and more housing and no means of carrying the traffic that comes with it.”
