088 RSVP / OUT & ABOUT NEW SEVENOAKS MAYOR NAMES CHARITY

Incoming Sevenoaks Mayor, Councillor Maxine Chakowa, has chosen Breast Cancer Care as her charity of her civic year. In addition to raising funds and awareness for the national charity, the Mayor also wants some funds to be used locally and funding the Sevenoaks Breast Cancer Care Support Group is part of this initiative. Local organisations have also kindly donated their time to provide related half-hour informative talks including a Health and Fitness Talk by Sevenoaks Lady Joggers on 4th July. During his year in office, outgoing Mayor, Councillor Andrew Eyre, who handed over the Mayoral Chains and Robes to incoming Mayor Councillor Chakowa, chose Diabetes UK as his charity and raised considerable awareness of the matters relating to the disease and £7,354 for the charity.

OUTGOING MAYOR RAISES £4,900

The outgoing Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Councillor Mark Rhodes, presented a cheque to each of his chosen charities, Wide Horizons and Age UK Sevenoaks &

LOCAL CHARITY CELEBRATES WITH GALA DINNER

Otford-based charity Hospices of Hope celebrated 25 years of hospice care in Romania with a glittering black tie Gala Dinner at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London attended by 150 guests.

Thanks to the huge generosity of supporters the event raised more than £32,000, which will be divided between two of the charity’s projects in South East Europe – the first ever in-patient hospice in Serbia and a unique respite and therapy centre for children in Romania.

The highlight of the evening was Catia (pictured right), who talked about the way the charity has transformed her life, telling guests: “Hospices of Hope gave me courage to accept disability and to overcome it. Everyone at hospice is so encouraging. They helped me realise my dream.”
