Be a skin smoothie


Exfoliation is an essential part of every summer skincare routine.


Gentle chemical exfoliators, such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, like glycolic or lactic acid) and BHAs (beta hydroxyl acids – look specifically for salicylic acid), leave your skin silky smooth, while hydrators like shea butter and vitamin E make it look dewy and plump. It’s also a good idea, about a month


before your holiday, to increase your dietary intake of antioxidants to neutralise


some of the damaging effects of UV. • Carrots contain beta-carotene, which helps the skin fi ght free radicals. • Almonds are rich in vitamin E and help the skin’s repair process.


• Red grapes contain polyphenols, which provide some defence against sun-induced DNA damage. • Greens, like spinach and kale, are bursting with protective antioxidants. • Tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene, which has been shown to calm irritation and offer some natural protection from sunburn.
