JUNE 2017 THE RIDER /51

Participate in the 2017 Economic Impact Study for the United States Horse Industry

Survey for National Study to be distributed via online link

(Washington, DC)- The American Horse Council Foundation (AHCF) is pleased to announce that the survey link for the Na- tional Economic Impact Study will be released on June 5th. The survey link will be available until August 1st. “The National Survey link initially be distributed

will

through equine organizations such as the American Quarter Horse Association, United States Eques- trian Federation, Certified Horse- manship Association, American Paint Horse Association, and more,” said AHC President Julie Broadway. “We hope everyone that receives the survey link will participate. This is an opportunity to showcase how important the vast equine industry is to the United States economy, and the more horse owners, breeders, rid- ers, trainers, racetracks, shows, rodeos and other industry suppli-

ers that participate, the better the data will be that is included in the final results.” The 2017 Economic Impact

Study will contain expanded de- mographics with youth participa- tion and additional segments of the industry, including Equine As- sisted Activities and Therapies, Equine Sanctuaries and Rescues, Equine Academic Programs, and Equine Youth Organizations. Representatives of these institu- tions and organizations, along with Equine Competition Organ- izers, will be receiving targeted and individualized surveys. The main survey is designed to cap- ture the impact of individual horse owners (whether commercial or recreational) and industry suppli- ers of equine-related goods and services. A separate data request is being sent directly to Race- tracks, OTBs, and Advanced De- posit Wagering businesses. The surveys were designed

by the Innovation Group and a supporting team of equine indus-

try experts. They were further vetted by key industry stakehold- ers as well as a Steering Commit- tee composed of AHC staff and five outside experts. The 2005 Economic Impact

Study established that the horse industry in all its segments, in- cluding racing, showing, and recreation, had a $39 billion effect on the US economy, involved more than 4 million Americans and 9.2 million horses, and sup- ported 1.4 million full-time jobs. The study provided invaluable de- mographic data and insights into professions and other industries that are impacted by equine own- ership, as well as proved to be ex- tremely helpful to the industry’s efforts in documenting its size, di- versity and economic importance to public officials, the press, and other media. Now more than ever, it’s important for the equine in- dustry to have access to data from all segments to ensure the most comprehensive, impactful portrait possible of our diverse and long-

standing industry. If you are a member of an

equine association, please be on the lookout for an email contain- ing the link to the take the Na- tional Survey. If you are not a member of an equine association, or did not receive the survey link after June 15th and would like to participate, please email eco- nomicimpactstudy@horsecoun- cil.org to receive the link. Please note, all personal information col- lected in the survey will be confi- dential and will not be distributed. We thank you in advance for

participating in this incredibly im- portant update to the Economic Impact Study! If you have any questions, please contact the AHC directly

American Horse Council Founda- tion News Release

Pequannock, NJ – Breyer® will join the Kentucky Horse Park in honoring the 100th birthday of the legendary Man o’ War with a new Classics® portrait model of the racing legend. Man o’ War (March 29, 1917 – November 1, 1947) is widely considered to be one of the greatest racehorses of all time. The chestnut Thor- oughbred stallion, nicknamed “Big Red” was not only a legend of the turf (Two Year Old Colt, Three Year Old Male, Horse of the Year) but he was also a prolific sire (Leading Sire in North America in 1926 and sire to the great War Admiral among oth- ers). His line is still prominent to this day. Man o’ War was named to the US Racing Hall of Fame in 1957. The Kentucky Horse Park, home of the final resting place

of the legendary racehorse, Man o’ War, is having a year-long celebration in honor of Big Red’s 100th birthday anniversary this year! The park’s iconic life-size bronze statue of Man o’ War is a popular tourist destination. His sculpture was sculpted by Her- bert Haseltine and it was installed at Faraway Farm over his grave in 1947. In 1977, both the statue and Man o’ War’s remains were moved to the Kentucky Horse Park where they remain to this day. The statue was fully restored last year. In honor of Man o’ War’s 100th celebration, Breyer will be

releasing a Classics® portrait model originally sculpted by Mau- reen Love. Breyer’s centennial edition Man o’ War model will feature the iconic black and yellow colors of his owner Samuel Riddle in a contemporary treatment designed especially for the Man o’ War Celebration presented by Windstream. Breyer’s Man o’ War model will first be available through the Kentucky Horse Park, and then will be available to all Breyer retailers by mid- July.
