Guardians of the Galaxy

Volume II Director: James Gunn

Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Chris Bautista and BradleyCooper

visual version of an old-school American arcade gamesaturating reality. Like Pac-Man turned “Frack”- Man; carrying the sass of Sci-Fi’s like Battle Star Galactica, but on level humour? Unbeatable. The eclectic showdownof out –of-

this-world visuals melded with the iconic tracks ofAwesomeMixtape #2 is layered with somucheccentricity, the uniquenessmakes it anMCU gem. Toe-tapping classics and hand- clapping humour are the formulaic lilies in a whirlpool of action and emotion that jumps to heights like Mary Poppinswould avec umbrella, before crash-landing back to earth on a ‘major-feels’ rocket. In a big bang of its own, Guardians expands the reaches of its owngalaxy, exploring new depths whilst holding onto the core personalities of its space tribe. The fusion ofDrax’s dry Humour,Quill’s quips and Rocket’s ‘ba-da-bing ba-da-BOOM’ attitude, is the real show-stopper –comeon, what’s more cute than a baby Groot? Lovable to the core, it’s almost as

fetching as Baby Groot’s desk retrieval, but in thenameof all things Sci-Fi the downfalls have to be mentioned. The occasional line felt

funnier in placement than content while somelineswere less funny than they should have been. The immature elements of humourwork aswell as thenameTaser Face at times whilst the initial anti-climactic family reunion felt as bland and overused asVader’swardrobe. Perhaps the biggest let downwas the lack of instrumental usage from Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’, but at least the flawsweren’t astronomical. Encapsulating retro and with

badass edge, there’s somuchkick to this flick it’s impossible not to enjoy. As literal asDrax when I say this is a laugh out loud space riot, glittering like Aladdin Sane’s thunderbolt. Dusted with legendary tracks that etch into the throwback feel, well playedcameos and visuals that etch arcade space invaders into reality; it’s infinity and beyond in the entertainment output. Fromthe opening to the end credits, sister bonds that melt the ‘zen’ out of Frozen and a baby Grootwhomelts hearts; Film of the Year? Abso- Frikkin’-Lutely.

Strap in, boot up and hold tight for cinema’smost colossal ride of 2017:Guardians of the GalaxyVolume II. Jam-packed with battles and banter, this space-(magnet – party?) kicks harder than a journey through 500jumps.Quill’s second escapade syncs kick-ass characters with 80s – arcade revival as the atmosphere in space turns electric. With more buzz than a neon-soaked sky, this little baby catapults through theemotional spectrum, lasering ‘film of the year’ as it goes.Well played, space-champs.
