ShowtimeA-*ahem* team: The opener says it all, and when Star-Lord rocks up in a t-shirt bearing resemblance to your football team’s new strip (yesNewcastle United, I meanyou) it’s a sure win right?Whilst the Guardians already stand out as the space squadwhoare insanely downto earth, it’s still easy to anticipate an over-hyped ‘typical’ Marvel. Sequels are rarely supreme– but with action more explosive than a Trash Panda’s party and school-boy edge banter, this cinematic buffet is finished with a side of Gilmore Girl’s


Kirk and garnished with sprinkle of Hoff. Like Star-Wars with a slap, Volume II has outdone its prequel and (even intergalactic) expectations. PeterQuill&Co launch into a


mission that sees them cross wires with someformer opponents, turned frenemies whilst gathering a few surprise Guardians along theway. Throwback romances showcase Quill’s roots and throwout that awesome80s nostalgia; It’s that earthy-retro art feel that sets Guardians apart as they helped


solidify that cinematic (and TV) trend. With a nod to the ultimate space


Sci-Fi, our Star-Lord manages to anger a space-cruisingAndroid Ayesha (who probably dreams of Space-cowboyQuill over Electric Sheep) shortly before becoming the centre of a family reunion thatwould shake Jeremy Kyle.With a fatherwho lives up to his name,welcoming home-boyQuill into hisworld, the Guardians must unite and conquer; neglecting the cliché. This cosmic time-warp, with aWalkman, is the
