Camgrain open days highlight central storage strategy
G
rowers will be able to see how farmer-owned cen- tral storage co-operative Camgrain operates and main- tains its sites at a series of three open days this month. Visitors will be able to hear
from the company’s partners, di- rectors and guest speakers about market prospects and the fi rm’s business strategy as the UK pre- pares to embark on negotiations that will see the country leave the European Union. “We are very pleased to have secured excellent guest speak- ers to stimulate topical discus- sion on the future of farming,” says Camgrain chairman John Latham, who fi rmly believess that UK agriculture faces op- portunities as well as challeng- es from Brexit.
In total, Camgrain has 470,000 tonnes of storage capacity in East Anglia and the south Midlands. The company has four advanced processing centres (APCs) – two near Cambridge, one in North- amptonshire and one at Strat- ford-upon-Avon. Together, the four facilities
have a combined peak daily in- take capacity of 30,000 tonnes uti- lising 250 lorries per day. Each location has a different focus al- though they work together to add value to farmers’ crops by target- ing specifi c markets.
Open Days The open days will be held at:
• Stratford APC, 1pm, 7 June • Northants APC, 3pm 12 June • Cambridge APC, 4pm 20 June Visit

The Cambridge APC has BRC
grad A certifi cation for food grade grain cleaning at storage. Its nearby neighbour at Linton is designed to maximise segrega- tion and micro management of malting barley and niche crops. The APC in Northampton-
shire is strategically placed at the centre of the East Midlands food processing industry. Mean- while, the Stratford APC serves the organic sector. It is co-locat- ed with an RCMA oilseed rape crush facility. Open day speakers include
HSBC head of Agrifoods Allan Wilkinson, agricultural econo- mist Sean Rickard, Frontier man- aging director Mark Aitchison, Frontier grain director Simon Christensen, and Kevin Ball of RCMA oil crushers. Not all speak- ers will attend each open day.
