Meet the Masters! C. Norman Shealy, MD, Ph.D., and a graduate of Duke Medi-


cal School: Dr. Shealy is the founder and fi rst President of Ameri- can Holistic Medical Association. He is an accomplished neuro- surgeon and a pioneer in pain medicine and in energy; credited with the invention of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator, spinal cord stimulator and radio-frequency ablation for back pain. He has lectured worldwide at hundreds of medical schools, uni- versities, hospitals and churches, and has appeared on numerous national TV programs including Oprah, Good Morning America and The Today Show, and is the author of 23 books.


J. David Forbes, M.D., ABIHM:, is the Founder and Director of Nashville Integrated Medicine. He is a Past President of the Ameri- can Holistic Medical Association (AHMA) and is the Co-Director with Bernie Siegel, MD of the Integrative Health and Healing Track of The Graduate Institute.


Accredited Master of Arts Degrees – A look at some of the


programs offered. Studies are fl exible and are geared towards busy, working people and the Institute offers one weekend per month courses.


Learning and Thinking (MALT) is a 36-credit degree program


that embraces a philosophy of education rooted in relationship, holism, and meaning. MALT is predicated on establishing a New Culture of Learning that develops the knowledge, skills, competen- cies, and imagination for a world in constant fl ux. Towards this end, the program nurtures the emergence of a collegial learning community dedicated to co-creating new meaning within a con- structivist and transdisciplinary context.


Consciousness Studies and Transpersonal Psychology is a 36-credit degree program that explores the nature, role, and development of human consciousness and transpersonal phenomena. What makes this program unique is that we have holistically integrated different perspectives into the coursework - psychological and spiritual, western and eastern, epistemological and clinical.
