Nutmeg “Nuggets” Divine Treasures Chocolates:
Vegan, Gluten-Free, Socially Responsible and Delicious
All of the products produced by Divine Treasures are made
from scratch, and the Perfect Duo is no exception. It is a labor- intensive treat that requires a total of fi ve processes to create. The fi rst step making the caramel, which requires soaking the nuts overnight, then grinding them and cooking them for ap- proximately fi ve hours. Each chocolate shell is molded, then the peanut butter truffl e is made and hand deposited into each chocolate cup. Once the caramel cools, it is poured on top of the peanut butter truffl e, and then an extra swirl of chocolate is added to the top. With each bite, you’ll experience the melt- ing of the peanut butter, the sweetness of the caramel, and the perfect balance of dark chocolate.

ivine Treasures is a boutique-style chocolate company that turns out an incredible variety of unique treats year-round. From chocolates, to soft-serve ice cream, to faux cheeses, this artisanal-style establishment offers a fl avor for every palette. Even those with dietary restrictions can enjoy many of the creations of master chocolatier, Diane Blanchette-Wagemann. Divine Treasures not only embraces the challenge of creating delicious vegan, gluten- free, and minimally processed treats, they do it with mouth-watering results.
D It all started when Diane was a young girl and made weekly
Sunday visits to her grandmother, affectionately known by the French-Canadian, “Mémère,” in Quebec. These visits were fi lled with joy, love, and, of course, chocolates. Together, Diane and her Mémère would make chocolates using old family recipes. The years passed and eventually the recipes were handed down to Diane. Now what is a good Vegan supposed to do with a bunch of old chocolate recipes? Why, modify them and open a chocolate shop of course! After painstaking research and training with master choco- latiers in Europe, Diane opened Divine Treasures in the fall of 2005, and production hasn’t stopped since.
Each of the recipes has been painstakingly updated to be gluten-
free and vegan-friendly, exchanging cow’s milk for cream made from cashews and almonds in-house. And while some chocolates use fl a- vorings that can contain gluten, like vanilla extract, Divine Treasures uses high-quality essential oils, eliminating that risk. Beyond the lack of animal products and gluten, the fi nest ingredients all-around are sourced, opting for the highest-quality European chocolate, with the occasional addition of a South American variety, to ensure the richest fl avors imaginable. Unlike your typical store-bought choco- late that features corn syrup and refi ned white sugar, Divine Trea- sures utilizes turbinado sugar, maple syrup, and brown rice syrup as sweeteners.
While the best chocolate beans may be grown and processed in Europe and South America, Divine Treasures prides itself in using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Whether it’s chai or rose liqueur from Wild Moon in Hartford fl avoring a decadent truffl e, or a spring farmer’s market fi nd lending a fresh new fl avor, Divine Treasures strives to support the local community. This, combined with an emphasis on organic ingredients, makes each Divine Trea- sures creation more socially responsible than traditional choices.
