69 Sport Rugby returns this weekend AFTER a short Christmas
break, rugby action returns to Pembrokeshire this Saturday (Jan 7), with some exciting fixtures in prospect. In the WRU Championship,
Narberth will be looking to keep their recent good run of form going when they take on Cardiff Met. Narberth won their last two
games before Christmas and a third straight win could see them move up to second place in the table. Their opponents Cardiff Met sit
fourth from bottom and the Otters will look to use their experience to overcome the Students. Narberth already hold a 39-6
victory over Cardiff Met this season and they will be hoping for a similar result on Saturday. In League 1 West, struggling
Squash tournament on the horizon THE PEMBROKESHIRE
OPEN SQUASH TOURNAMENT will be held on the last weekend of January (27-29) at Milford Haven Leisure Centre. A great weekend of squash is
anticipated, so why not support the sport and have a go? Contact West Wales Development Officer Pete Crook on 07809 236762 or

South Wales Leagues With the restructuring of the
South Wales West Divisions, the player pathway out of Pembrokeshire will be affected; Division 2 West has been dissolved, leaving Division 1 West only. Over the spring season, the
club will take another look at the player pathway with the possibility of entering teams into the summer league. This should, however, enhance the West Glamorgan leagues with three sides from South Wales West Division 2 rejoining West Glam leagues.
Pembrokeshire Division 1 Winter season Winners - MLC D Squash Team
This win rounds off a fantastic
season for Meads Squash Club and it is great to see the club playing the juniors, giving them experience under the watchful eye of more seasoned players. Well done to all at Pembrokeshire Squash.
Pembrokeshire Division 2 Winter season Winners - Carmarthen Squash Club
It has been a great season for
Carmarthen Squash Club as they were crowned winners of Division 2 and both their teams have also been promoted to Division 1.
Also worth a mention is
Coach Jenny Jones, who has been instrumental in forming the club teams and moving the club forward. There was also a successful
evening at the Pembrokeshire Sports Awards with Pete Crook winning Coach of the Year
Special match raises £1,000 THERE was a special match
held at Tregroes Park on New Year’s Eve as Fishguard’s young guns took on a team of legends in a special charity match. The match was put on to raise
funds for Luke Harding’s Ward 10 (Withybush Hospital) appeal. Luke is battling lung cancer and a
brain tumour but is determined to put those to one side in order to raise funds for Withybush Hospital. The game saw the young guns
come out on top with a winning score line of seven goals to two. Lewis Banks scored twice, while
the other goals were scored by Steve Lewis, Niall Kinsella, Matthew Lewis
and Jordan Griffiths. Nigel Davies scored twice for
the legends but the day belonged to Harding. Luke came on at the end and he
was given the chance to score from the spot, which he did to round off an excellent afternoon. Fishguard Sports took to Twitter
after the match saying: “Thank you to everyone who turned out today to watch an exciting game of football. Great community support here in Fishguard!” An early count from the day,
which also featured a special auction, showed that approximately £1,000 has been raised for Luke’s Ward 10 appeal.
Pete was presented his award by
Carwyn Young from Sport Wales. Peter was nominated for his work at Meads Squash Club as well as the work he undertakes with disability and helping other clubs within the county. Meads Squash Club were also
finalists in the Squash Club of the Year category, having been nominated for the work at the club and within the local community. Nick Dyer from the Meads
Squash Club was also a finalist for Male Sporting Achievement of the Year.
Nick captains Meads Premier
Team, county team and Welsh men’s over 45 masters team. Nick has been instrumental in helping to achieve a full player pathway out of the county for all Pembrokeshire players to enjoy.
Whitland are away to mid-table Felinfoel while Crymych are away to Waunarlwydd. Crymych came out on top when
these sides last met on the opening day of the new season with the narrowest of wins by nine points to eight.
They have also won their last two
games and will be hoping to make that three in a row on Saturday. In League 2 West, there is a Pembrokeshire derby between Fishguard and Tenby United while bottom of the table Haverfordwest are away to Mumbles. Haverfordwest did not enjoy a
pleasant end to 2016 with just one win to their name but they will be hoping they can turn things around in their first game of 2017. The Blues face a Mumbles side
who have also struggled this season and sit just four places above the Blues going into the game. The two sides last met on the
opening day of the season with the visitors taking a narrow 7-11 win, but the Blues will be keen to avenge that loss.
High-flying Tenby travel to third
from bottom Fishguard on Saturday as they look to keep their impressive run going. It was Fishguard who got the
better of the two sides earlier in the season with a 15-11 win, but Tenby will be keen to show how far they have come since then. There are also some intriguing
fixtures in League 3 West A, with leaders Milford taking on a struggling Tregaron side while second placed St Clears are away to a resurgent Pembroke Dock Quins. Milford got the better of Tregaron
earlier in the season with a 20-15 win and the form books point to another Milford win on Saturday. St Clears have been in good form
this season and are separated from Milford by just a bonus point in the table.
They face a Quins side who
will be boosted by two consecutive wins, the last of which came against neighbours Pembroke. St Clears won the previous fixture
between the sides 22-5 but Saturday’s encounter could be much closer. Neyland are also in action against
rivals Pembroke who currently sit fourth despite defeat to the Quins in their last match. The All Blacks were also beaten
in their last match with Milford Haven so both sides will be keen to get back to winning ways on Saturday. Pembroke won the last fixture
29-22 but Neyland will be keen to avenge that loss on home soil. Elsewhere, Laugharne take on
Llangwm while third placed Cardigan are away to bottom side St Davids.
