As with any great leader, Perez inspires those around her to greatness. “Eden’s strong commitment to hard work and relentless pursuit of excellence has been a driving force in developing a culture of teamwork, transparency and integrity through our organization,” said Richard Sperazza, the transportation depart- ment’s director of customer service. Perez put herself through college without debt and is helping her husband do the same. She is also mother to a 4 year old and owns investment properties. “Eden is an inspiration to me as a woman, working mother and wife,” shared Kim Jackson, an associate quality assurance specialist. Perez completed the NYCDOE Management Development Program, NYCDOE Leadership Development Program and several professional development courses through the National Association of Pupil Transportation. In a concurrent quest to share knowledge, she has been a repeat presenter in evacuation and wheelchair securement at both the NAPT Summit and the Transporting Students with Disabilities and Special Needs Conference in Frisco, Texas.



BUS DISTRIBUTORS ASSOCIATION Approximately 2.3 million New York students are transported

to and from school every day, a number that is equal to about 10 percent of students riding the yellow bus across the U.S. An important part of both district and contractor school bus

operations is the distributors. “School bus distributors are the direct link between custom- ers and manufacturers, ensuring school districts and private school bus operators have easy access to maintenance, parts, technical expertise, mechanics, training, and warranty services,” noted the New York School Bus Distributors Association (NYSBDA). The associ- ation’s youngest president, 27-year-old Robert Reichenbach, also serves as executive vice president of distributor Bird Bus Sales. As such, he is skilled in both operational business management and big-picture vision and advocacy. At age 10, he began helping at Bird Bus Sales, which was founded by his father Rick in the mid-1990s. From attending industry trade shows to performing bus maintenance to delivering buses across New York, he was active in the family business throughout his early years. NYSBDA spokesman Andre Claridge added that Robert Reichenbach’s role in administrative business affairs helped him gain “invaluable experience and skills in the day-to-day operations of the business, and in what it takes to run and manage a success- ful and growing school bus provider.” In his current role, he serves “with the energy needed to meet the challenges of the fu-

ture, including enhanced bus safety technology and all-electric buses,” said John Corrado, president and CEO of bus contractor Suffolk Transportation Service. As president of the NYSBDA, Claridge said, Reichenbach “is advancing the association’s

status as an industry thought leader and in supporting critical school bus safety legisla- tion in New York.” “Reichenbach’s youthful energy, lifetime of experience, deep understanding of the lat-

est school bus technology, and new ideas, will help propel the school bus industry in New York and throughout the country forward in the years to come,” Claridge stated.


GP Singh may be a familiar name to those who are acquainted with School Transportation News and the STN EXPO Reno. He has written magazine columns and website blogs on school bus technology

and has presented similar workshops at the EXPO. He is a prime example of those dedicated people who see a need in the student transportation industry and take the initiative to provide solutions. When he entered the school bus industry in 2005, he said he was amazed by the lack of technology being utilized, compared to the retail industry that he previously worked in for over a decade. Singh spent time in leadership positions at FirstGroup, parent company of school bus contracting compa-

ny First Student, and at National Express, parent company of school bus contractor Durham School Services, Petermann Bus and Stock Transportation. But, he shared, he remained frustrated by how difficult it was to use data from available technology systems in a mean- ingful way. As business strategist and consultant Aashish Patel put it, “There was a lot of data created, but it was not used wisely or well. [Singh] pursued his dream of bettering the industry, by helping companies to be safer, by creating an integrated, robust and easy to use learning platform.” After resigning from National Express, Singh founded ByteCurve, LLC., which focuses on three main areas.
