The SafeStop school bus tracking app has been


around for only four years, but


already leads the industry with almost 200 school districts relying on its services. A major part of its success is its company director of business development, Patrick Gallagher.


Gallagher helps grow the company’s “revenues, customers, users, and brand recognition from the ground up in a rapidly growing market,” explained Ben Hohmann, public relations and marketing lead at school bus software company Zonar Systems, a SafeStop business partner. Gallagher said he welcomed the chance to continue in the


student transportation industry, which his family has been in for four generations, as well as pursue his passion of technological development. He honed his skills with over five years in marketing at school bus contractor Student Transportation, Inc. (STI), then helped build the SafeStop app the company rolled out in August 2014. Thomas Kominsky, chief growth officer at Student Transpor- tation of America, Inc., the U.S. school bus operational arm of STI,


agreed. “Patrick has been instrumental in leading the SafeStop team to its position as the market leader of school bus tracking apps and analytics platforms,” he said. Hohmann added that Gallagher’s quick industry ascent coupled with his work developing SafeStop for optimal student safety and parent peace of mind definitely mark him as a rising transporta- tion superstar. Organizations like School Bus Consultants recommend


SafeStop to clients struggling with their operations because they “really see the value it provides in terms of performance analysis and optimization,” explained President Tom Platt. He noted that Gallagher has been “instrumental in unlocking the real value of SafeStop for us—building a product that easily identifies operational gaps and inefficiencies that are plaguing a lot of our clients today.” “He and his team have been relentless in their pursuit of creat- ing a service that is changing the industry for the better for both parents and operators,” Kominsky concluded. “By helping SafeStop grow at a rapid pace, Patrick is helping

Ryan Hahn DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION NORTH CLACKAMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT (OREGON)


How many 9-year-olds do you


know who show an interest in and acuity for the operational side of student transportation? When Ryan Hahn was in third grade, he would


accompany his mother to her job at the Salem-Keizer Public Schools transportation department and converse with Director of Transportation Services Michael Shields. Even at that age, he impressed Shields with his observation and awareness. “The same retentive memory and mental sharpness is still one of his hallmark traits,” Shields said. Intentional self-improvement is something Hahn has dedicated himself to for years. He obtained a master’s degree in business administration in 2016 and is currently working on a doctorate of philosophy. He coupled this academic knowledge with his experience as a school bus driver, dispatcher, router, driver trainer, diesel mechanic and businessman to improve both the operation- al and cultural aspects of the transportation department at North Clackamas School District near Portland. Ron Stewart, a former assistant superintendent of finance and operations at North Clackamas, was Hahn’s direct supervisor


for two years. “He implemented many improvements that have resulted in increased quality and consistency of service, safety, accountability, and professionalism,” Stewart recalled. One such project was organizing some facility improvements


that included relocating a bus operation and rerouting the entire district to accommodate the change. “He worked hard to improve morale and organizational health in the department,” Stewart added. Sarah Paulson, Hahn’s transportation administrative assistant


at North Clackamas, accentuated that point. “Ryan works hard to make sure our transportation employees stay engaged, feel valued, and that our voices are heard,” she declared. Shields agreed. “Ryan’s greatest strength is his ability to under-


stand others and communicate,” he said. Like any great leader, Hahn lends his skills to those in need of them. He shared how he helps “promote best practices and solve complex human resource and operations issues” throughout the transportation and safety industries as a consultant. He has also trained staff at three districts on team building and conflict mediation and resolution, and he has presented for the past two years at STN EXPO Reno.
