rebranding),” Epstein said. “He’s really the right person to take the division forward.” As SoundOff CVS maintains its commitment to the yellow bus
sector, it is already becoming better known within the trailer, utility and commercial niches. “There’s a ton of similarities between the markets,” Epstein said.
Te next step, Wakefield explained, is for the LED indus-
try to continue its evolution of commercial vehicle lighting. “We need to continually look at what sort of innovations
or product changes we need to do to support this market. Is it the traditional way of manufacturing an LED light from an appearance and output standpoint? What do our customers want long-term? “Do we need to be projecting the light differently for a
better, more visible product? Te seven-inch round light on the back certainly has been the light of the past. Is it the light of the future?” Wakefield said. “Is that what our customers want and does it provide maximum protection for kids getting off the bus and drivers?” Gaines noted that while Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards “are pretty stable and don’t change that often,” many states have their own approach to improve on basic lighting patterns. “We’re seeing more creative approaches to putting lights
at eye level to get the attention of increasingly distracted drivers,” he said. “Everyone in the bus world knows there’s a high occurrence of drive-bys. What we’re always figuring out is how much of it is ignoring the law and how much is not paying attention. We’ve gotten good results getting ➥
