by the news of a lawsuit filed May 1 against the U.S. EPA in response to its attempts to repeal 2010 greenhouse gas emissions standards. Assistant Division Chief Analisa Bevan, speaking for Chair Mary Nichols who was called away from the Expo by Gov.
Jerry Brown due to the lawsuit filing, affirmed CARB’s dedication to supporting and funding the
proliferation of low- or zero- emissions vehicles in the state. Student transporters throughout
the country may view with envy the
myriad avenues for clean school bus funding in California, opportunities stemming in part from
the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Incentive Program, Carl Moyer Program, Lower Emissions School Bus Program— and its subsidiary, Rural School Bus Pilot Program—as
well as grants from local air quality management districts and the state’s cap-and-trade funds. However, ACT Expo organizers Gladstein, Neandross & Associates made it clear that such opportunities exist for districts across the country. For example, New York offers its own incentive program to offset the incremental cost of electric buses. In a recent webinar conducted for STN on the $2.9 billion that
is available through the VW Mitigation Trust Fund, Joe Annotti, the senior programs manager for Gladstein, Neandross & Associates, revealed that states are in the process of drafting and submitting plans on how their share of the funds will be used. He advised interested parties to connect with their state school transporta- tion associations and local clean cities departments for updates and information on how to convey their interest. During the May 1 school bus replacement panel, Brianna
Lawrence, who works with Annotti as a senior associate in the grants program, recommended using online resources from GNA, to help find local grants and then keep track of relevant dates. Te three transportation supervisors also shared strategies that had helped them fund clean school buses. Tese included being communicative about health benefits and Total Cost of Ownership, obtaining community buy-in, getting drivers onboard and excited, partnering with a local waste management company for fueling, stacking grants, consulting with local utility

A few tips to ensure
highest performance from your A/C this summer
1) Keep A/C on max
By turning the a/c to it’s highest setting a greater volume of air will be pushed into the cabin replacing hot air with cold air.
2) Open The Window
Keeping a window cracked an inch or two while parked will ensure better air circulation 3) Defrost
If you smell dirty socks coming from the vents, I recommend running the defrost for a few minutes to remove the smell until you can replace the filter.
