he 2018 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Long Beach, California last month was electric with talk of all the clean energy vehicle solutions and funding opportunities that are currently available and those to
come. Te event also saw its largest school bus presence to date. Te significance of the yellow bus to the alternative fuel
conversation was apparent by the packed room that showed up to hear School Transportation News Editor-in-Chief Ryan Gray host a roundtable discussion on effective school bus replacement strategies on the first full day of the Expo, just prior to the opening general session on May 1.

dreds of millions of dollars in grant money available for near-zero or zero emissions commercial vehicles. Tat’s not including nearly a half-million dollars in Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund grants that will begin to be available later this year. While the ACT Expo’s vast electric footprint was due in large part to the event’s location, various alternative fuels are quickly becoming mainstream. In fact, the U.S. Department of Energy recently suggested the word “alternative” be dropped altogether. And no matter a school district’s location, opportunities are available to secure funding assistance to
