Te Houston-
Galveston Area Council in Texas runs a Clean School Bus Program that is funded by money paid by local chemical plants, as an alternative to being fined. Te program’s focus is replacing or retrofitting pre-2007 diesel buses. Program Manager Robert Veazie told STN that the funds have been used to replace about 300 diesel school buses
over the last 10 years—and 75 percent of the new buses have been diesel, with propane or CNG making up the remainder.

Type A school buses offered by Starcraft and Trans Tech, announced a similar partnership with Collins Bus, to produce a new electrified Type-A school bus. Te Lion Electric Company already offers
an electric Type-C eLion, the first large bus of its kind on the market, but it also an- nounced that this summer, it and dealer First Priority Greenfleet will roll out a low-floor, transit-style electric bus, but in the Type A weight class. Meanwhile, electric transit and shuttle bus
provider GreenPower Motor Company is testing a new electric Type-D school bus. In addition, CNG and propane engine manufac- turer AgilityFuel is planning to make a battery system with possible school bus application in the near future.
