School districts and transportation managers are challenged to capture and manage all data. Those who can afford to do so, utilize vendors to accomplish this, and are able to harness the utility of the data. Hannan says his district relies on vendors. “Some of the software we
have invested in can be somewhat challenging to learn, and we do require vendor support at solving implementation problems,” he adds. Carter adds that in his Panama City, Florida district there is a tremendous
reliance on vendors to monitor their products and the effective and efficient use of them to realize how they can better serve the district. “With limited resources, we are unable to ‘think-tank’ and ‘R&D’ better ways to provide services, and so we rely on the vendors to do this for us,” he says. “It seems that every time we meet with our vendors we learn a new and more effective way to utilize the tools and the data they generate to add another level of productivity to our operation. In this day of limited and decreasing budgets the more we can utilize these technologies to make us more efficient, the better off we are in April when budget microscopes are deployed and the budget report cards pored over by finance and accounting departments.”
