About 15 percent of survey respondents said they are currently using real-time routing, mostly through industry-specific applications that transmit directions to school buses through a smart phone or tablet. GO represents a fundamental shift in how the tech company will develop products, specifically on iOS (Apple) and Android (Google) platforms to connect vehicles with mobile devices. “We are leveraging the built-in functionality of these smart devices, such as camera and messaging technology, to provide the most powerful products,” said Transfinder President and CEO Antonio Civitella. “Providers will be in bad shape, if they don’t adapt for the next phase of artificial intelligence.”


LOOK OUT FOR MORE DISRUPTION An array of other AI innovators aims to disrupt bus transportation. Start-up companies


are introducing applications and smart vehicles that tap into transportation data for more efficient fleets and passenger convenience. Supported by transportation incubator Techstars, BusBot offers an application that


use artificial intelligence for intercity bus logistics. Its algorithms tap into external data, so that fleets can adjust their routes and schedules, based on real-time traveler preference data. On any day, operators can decide the number of bus charters, the best time to schedule trips and the prices to charge passengers. Not yet widely adopted, the company is looking for big-city collaborators.
