SERVICE PEDESTALS 15

installation of electrical distribution systems for the leisure market and has the knowledge and experience to advise you on the way forward with any proposed alteration or upgrade of pontoon and boatyard services. Smart Metering is the latest

addition to Maricer’s portfolio of products which can, in some cases, be retrofitted into your existing pedestals. Smart Metering allows you ultimate control over the services that are offered at berths and within your boatyard. The meters display and transmit collated data automatically, or on demand, from each berth to a computer located in the marina office. St Katharine Docks, the flagship marina in the heart of London adjacent to Tower Bridge, was a key project for Maricer in 2016. This iconic marina has chosen 154 pedestals from the Atlantis range incorporating full SMART metering technology, water and LED lighting. Retrofitting does not have to be

a whole marina refit as it may be a single pontoon or strategically- located lighting pedestals. Maricer has developed a range of lighting pedestals to complement its service pedestals. Manufactured from

the same robust material and to the same design, differing height options are available to enhance and complement any area of your marina.

In addition, Maricer can supply

a wide range of replacement components to suit other manufacturers’ pedestals and can also fabricate replacement

sides, lids and diffusers for these pedestals. Maricer Ltd sales@maricer.com www.maricer.com

European rules for electric metering

In October, 2016, new European legislation came into effect stating that it was mandatory for all kWh electricity meters installed after this date, including on marinas, to be approved under the Measurement Instrument Directive (MID). The aim of the directive is to

create a single market in measuring instruments for the benefit of manufacturers and users across Europe. UK-based marina services

specialist, Rolec Services, is one of the European companies that has invested heavily in developing a range of fully MID-approved kWh electricity metering solutions for the marina industry. Kieron Alsop, Rolec’s Managing

Director, commented: “Over the last 18 months, we have been

investing heavily in the design and certification of a new range of MID- approved kWh electricity metering, suitable for our marina service products. “As well as standard credit

metering, we have also developed a MID-approved smartcard meter that is proving very popular with the marina industry worldwide.” Alsop continued: “In addition

to manufacturing and supplying marina and waterside service pedestals with built-in MID- approved metering, we can also supply the MID-approved meters themselves for retro-fitting into existing systems, providing a very cost-effective upgrade to comply with the new regulations”.
